I am an important person in the Bible because more was written to me than any other man in the Bible. My doctor friend wrote an orderly account so that I “may know with certainty of the things” that have been taught. I must have been important because even such a distinguished man as a doctor, a fast friend of the great apostle Paul, called me “most excellent.” Therefore, some have speculated that I was a Roman official or at least wealthy. The translation of my name means “one who loves God.” Who am I?
After Judas Iscariot fell headlong and died a gruesome death, the apostles decided to fill out their ranks with “one of the men who hav.e been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.” After prayer, they cast lots and chose me. Who am I?
