Our Book of Life

Our life is like a book untold, Each leaf that’s read, a year, And every page that we unfold, A new year doth appear.

But each new leaf that we have turned Leaves another year behind. What’s planned ahead can ne’er be learned The past may but remind.

Each simple word that’s written down Is like a single day. The letters are the seeds we’ve sown Life’s tasks along the way.

And as we read between the lines We find a blot or two. The tear-stained ones we see are signs Of the trials we’ve been through,

Of sins we have been sorry for, Which Christ has blotted out, Which made us love Him even more And trust without a doubt.

But we also see the sunshine there Among the grief and pain; Which we will reap each time we share The happiness we gain.

And when this “Book of Life” is done And every page complete, We must account for everyone Before the judgment seat.

So through the years that God may send, Resolve to live anew. Try hard our sinful ways to mend; Pray Christ to guide us through.
