A National Atrocity
A startling fact! Do you realize t hat since the 1973 Supreme Court decision, it has taken American Abortionists only six years to kill the same amount of people as were killed during the twelve years of Germany’s Third Reich? Several million murdered fetuses. Despite all this legalized murder in America where do we hear the voice of Christians in protest? We see ver y little reference to it in our church periodicals, nor do we hear much reference to it from our pulpits. What is the reason? Have we become so calloused that the taking of human life, created in the image of God, is of no real concern? Has the media, especially the T.V. with its multi-murders and poison potions so saturated our lives that we have a cockeyed concept about Right and Wrong? Have Hawaii 5–0, Kojak, The Fag, The Jerk and American Gigolo so warped our value-sense? Not to mention Deep Throat, The Exorcist and all that abominable horde that has been filmed from the dregs of debauchery?
Thomas Jefferson said, “The care of human life and not its destruction—is the first and only legitimate object of good government.”
Lawrence Burns D.O., president of Grand Rapids Right to Life states, “The founders of our government were aware of the value of human life as found in the Bible. Separation of Church and State never meant that laws which express valid legal principles are invalid when they coincide with religious principles.”
A Ghoulish Traffic
Further, the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution declares the rights contained should apply to “ALL POSTERITY.” However, today, even up to the time of birth, unborn children have no right—killed by abortion, their right to life destroyed by the vote of seven Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court. And as if that still isn’t the depth of depravity, The Right To Life News reports about a “SECRET WORLD TRADE IN HUMAN FETUSES.” Ghastly as it may seem the report goes on to state, “The use of fetal materials in the study of rare diseases by the U.S. Military may be employed for bacteriological warfare. Japan revealed that frozen fetuses were being sent to Fort Detrick, Md., the notorious experimental station. Since the Supreme Court legalized abortion for all nine months of pregnancy American women provide a steady supply of needed fetuses. The D.C. General .hospital has taken in more than $68,000.00 since 1966 from the sale of aborted fetuses. Abortionists may have encouraged unnecessary abortions on welfare patients or on women well beyond the third month of pregnancy, since these are more valuable for fetal research. Flow Laboratories in the Washington suburbs received iced fetal parts from Seoul via Japan air lines. Six or seven companies buy fetuses for $20.00 to $30.00 a batch. Forty to fifty drug companies, research hospitals and government agencies get fetuses from these companies.”
A Christian Duty
Pro-life groups were heartened recently however by the Supreme Court decision upholding the constitutionality of the Hyde Amendment, thus restricting the use of public funds for welfare abortions. In fact the majority opinion written by Justice Potter Stewart offer s evidence of more than the court’s views on the Hyde Amendment. Justice Stewart stated, “Abortion is inherently different from other medical procedures, because no other medical procedure involves the purposeful termination of a potential life.” Despite this ruling, Gov. Milliken of Michigan’s refusal to cut off funding for the abortion of indigent women flies in the face of this Supreme Court decision. His insistence on this issue and his refusal to go along with his legislative body who again and again have tried to stop this funding, calls for a ballot–box ouster, in my humble opinion. Here in lies the answer for us as Christians, and a civic duty indeed. Check the answers and attitudes of candidates and don’t vote blindly, and use your veto powers when certain individuals are not up to God’s Standards.
Indeed, sad to say, it seems too many of the POWERS THAT BE are in league with the devil on this issue. But take courage! God and Right are for us! and conscience is already smiting many women who have chosen the traumatic process called abortion. In fact even some psychiatrists finally lament that what is so easily removed from a woman’s body may never be erased from her mind, leaving instead a sense of bitter loss and permanent remorse.
But some may ask, “Is a fetus a person?” Let the Word of God speak on this issue. Ecclesiastes 11:5 states, “As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child; even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.” Again in Psalm 139:14, 15, 16 we read, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eye did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.” Also we call to mind Jacob and Esau‘s story, before they were born. Genesis 25:23. And again Isaiah 49:1 where the prophet said he was called from the womb.
A surprising fact is that even heathen nations are coming to r ealize the evils of abortion. Dr.Uene concludes, “Easy abortion has been a bad experience for Japan. Just as we need .guard rails, signal lights and speed limits, so we need precise laws governing abortion.”
How can we help stem this evil tide as Christians? Write to your Representatives and Congressmen. Join the Moral Majority in as far as it is feasible according to our Reformed principles.
